Efficient algorithms for detection and resolution of distributed deadlocks

چکیده
We present a simple and efficient distributed algorithm for detecting generalized-deadlocks in distributed systems. Unlike previous algorithms, which are all based on the idea of distributed snapshot, and require multiple rounds of message transfers along the edges of the global wait-€or graph (WFG), the proposed algorithm uses a novel approach that incrementally constructs an “image” of the WFG a t an initiator node. The algorithm has time complexity of d + 1 and message complexity of e + n, where n is the number of nodes, d the diameter, and e the number of edges of the WF’G. Compared with the best existing algorithm, our algorithm notably reduces both time and message complexities. Correctness proof and performance analysis for the algorithm are provided. In addition, the new approach simplifies deadlock resolution. An extension to the algorithm is presented to handle generalized-deadlock resolution with only a slight increase to the message complexity.

Introducing An Efficient Set of High Spatial Resolution Images of Urban Areas to Evaluate Building Detection Algorithms
The present work aims to introduce an efficient set of high spatial resolution (HSR) images in order to more fairly evaluate building detection algorithms. The introduced images are chosen from two recent HSR sensors (QuickBird and GeoEye-1) and based on several challenges of urban areas encountered in building detection such as diversity in building density, building dissociation, building sha...
متن کاملTowards Efficient Algorithms for Deadlock Detection and Resolution in Distributed Systems
Deadlock detection algorithms for distributed systems have been studied thoroughly for many years. However, many of them either are incorrect or too expensive in terms of time and/or space Complexity. One problem with previous work is that deadlock resolution is often overlooked. Another problem is the insufficient attention given to the characteristics of the wait-for model that is employed. T...
متن کاملAn Efficient Deadlock Detection and Resolution Algorithm for Generalized Deadlocks
In existing deadlock detection and resolution algorithms, only a few of them can handle deadlocks in generalized request models. Most of these algorithms diffuse probes and collect dependency information in the replies. In this paper, we propose an efficient algorithm to detect and resolve generalized deadlocks. In this algorithm, replies are sent after a process has received all the messages f...
متن کاملAn Improved Algorithm to Detect Communication Deadlocks in Distributed Systems
This paper presents a new algorithm for the detection and resolution of communication deadlocks in distributed systems. The algorithm is based on some well known concepts for distributed deadlock detection and adds some new features to reduce message-and space complexity. It was implemented on a transputer network and shown to be more eecient than previously published algorithms.
متن کاملAnalysis for Deadlock Detection and Resolution Techniques in Distributed Database
In a distributed database environment, where the data is spread across several sites there are many concerns to deal with such as concurrency control, deadlock. Deadlocks impact the overall performance of the system. A deadlock is a condition in a system where a process cannot proceed because it needs to obtain a resource held by another process which it itself is holding a resource that the ot...
